Frontend Engineer (Remote)

Job description

Join our client – an enterprise tech and media company – on their web product team for an exciting opportunity, including an on-site kickoff for 2 sprints at their New York City office. Enjoy the challenges of working on high-traffic WordPress properties. Leverage your knowledge of modern frontend development, headless WordPress, and Gutenberg. Deliver high quality code efficiently, with excellent verbal and written communication, while adhering to our values, Agile methodologies, coding best practices, and established organizational processes.

XWP will cover travel and accommodation expenses during your 4 week time on-site. Then transition back to remote work for the remainder of the engagement.

Areas of Focus

  • Deliver solutions to Client-prioritized deliverables

  • Follow coding best practices and write tests

  • Team and Client project-specific communication

  • Estimate effort to complete user stories & tasks

Accountabilities

  • Contribute to estimation/effort level for all tickets in the backlog

  • Work closely with Architects to develop solutions

  • Deliver quality code on time and in budget

  • Write unit, integration, or regression tests when appropriate

  • Conduct functional peer reviews for code created by other Engineers

  • Attend Backlog Grooming, Sprint Planning and Sprint Review meetings

  • Follow coding best practices

  • Follow Agile SCRUM methodologies

  • Follow organizational processes

  • Be a supportive, candid, respectful team member

  • Have a growth mindset

Payscale

This is a mid to senior-level contract role with an expected pay range of USD $50 to $100 per hour, depending on proven experience level. Additional pay will be provided during on-site engagement periods to offset associated costs.

Work Environment

You’ll be joining a web product team of 12-18 people, including a Scrum Master, Product Owners, Engineering Manager, and Engineers. Work in a great office space in downtown NYC for 4 weeks, including free lunch and snacks while on-site. Enjoy all that the Big Apple has to offer with this special opportunity. Then transition to remote work for the remainder of the engagement.

Job requirements

The following list of engineering technologies are considered most important for this role and your demonstrated skills in these primary areas will carry the most weight.

  • (Headless) WordPress at scale

  • Modern Frontend Development (ES6 JavaScript, SASS, webpack)

  • Gutenberg

Although this is a modern front-end engineering role, some backend experience is desirable. We expect that you will have experience with and a good working knowledge of most of the following areas of technology and the ability to quickly learn and close any gaps that you encounter while engaged.

  • WordPress

  • PHP, HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript

  • Object Oriented Programming

  • Gutenberg & React

  • WP-CLI and WP-REST-API

  • RESTful Services and APIs

  • SQL and NoSQL databases

  • Linting PHP and JavaScript

  • CI/CD workflows

  • E2E testing and frameworks like PHPUnit, QUnit, and Mocha

  • Build-tools like Grunt, Gulp, and webpack

  • Docker and/or Vagrant

  • Package management tools like NPM and Composer

  • Transpiling ES6 to ES5 using Babel

  • CSS Preprocessors like SASS and LESS

  • Git and SVN version control systems

  • Responsive interfaces

  • Debugging for a wide range of browsers and devices

  • Extending interfaces with Javascript
